Natalia Christofoletti Barrenha

I am an experienced film programmer, researcher and cultural manager from Brazil.

As well as leading teams by developing, encouraging and inspiring them, I have successfully coordinated several cultural projects (especially film cycles) from conception to completion: this includes programming, securing funding, meeting deadlines and objectives whilst maintaining tight control of the budget. I have also participated in several events by welcoming international guests, conducting Q&As, introducing screenings, supervising logistical/technical issues, interacting with the public, as a production assistant, fundraiser and as a jury member.

I am also a film researcher and lecturer specialising in Latin American film, the author of two books and several articles published in international academic journals, and I have already presented my work at more than 30 conferences around the world. I hold a doctoral degree in Multimedia from Universidade Estadual de Campinas – UNICAMP (Brazil) and conducted postdoctoral research at the UNICAMP Institute of Language Studies. I was also a visiting fellow at the KU Leuven (Belgium) and at Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), and have participated in research projects within the Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Between 2011 and 2020, I was a member of the editorial board of ‘Imagofagia’, the leading film studies journal in Argentina, being co-editor from 2017.

I also work as a freelance journalist, writer and translator (EN => PT, EN => ES, ES PT).

I am currently a visiting scholar at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Slovakia) while contributing as an independent film programmer to the Electric Palace Cinema (Hastings, UK) and international film festivals.
