I am a freelance Botanical Illustrator with work published by Collins, Dorling Kindersley, the RHS, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. I have written two books on Botanical Illustration – the First Ten Lessons; and Colour and Composition, published by Bloomsbury. I run classes and workshops introducing beginners, and helping more advanced students to improve their technique.

Join Botanical Illustrator Valerie Price for a day of Botanical Illustration learning new skills and creating your a piece of your own artwork.
Val has been a been freelance Botanical Illustrator and teacher for many years and has had work published by Collins, Dorling Kindersley, the RHS and Kew. She has also as written two books The First Ten Lessons, and Colour and Composition, which were published by Bloomsbury.
The day is aimed at beginners, those who wish to enhance their skills in drawing and watercolour, or more advanced students, who could use some workshop space with other like minded people.
The class will begin by selecting and observing closely from a chosen plant or flower. Then move on to accurate drawing, making careful measurements to ensure detail and structure. The drawing will be transferred to watercolour paper, before working in washes to build up shape, colour and form.
Spaces will be limited, so booking is essential.
All refreshments to be purchased from the cafe, with plenty of breaks, as well as a one hour break for lunch so that a delicious snack, sandwich or more can be enjoyed.
Students should bring:
A4 drawing pad
Pencils 2H HB 2B
Rubber and sharpener
Tracing paper
Watercolour paper (hot press preferably)
Water colours
Brushes size 0 and 6 and an old brush for mixing
Pallet
Water pot X 2
Table easle (if possible)
Small plant or flower
The cost for the day will be £50, as well as any purchases you make from the cafe.
