Business Description Creative Coast was formed in Spring 2009 by Hastings-based artists Sarah Yates and Lorna Crabbe. We aim to foster the development, awareness, understanding and appreciation of the arts in Hastings and across the South East. Initially we collaborated on a local weekly arts e-bulletin, a resource for the local creative community, providing a platform to profile and develop local practitioners’ work. We managed the Coastal Currents arts festival in 2009 and 2010, and are currently working towards 2011. Through the festival we have programmed talks, seminars, workshops, CPD events, tours, activity trails and commissioned live performance events, exhibitions, experimental theatre, public artworks and artists' interventions. We have also coordinated projects in empty shops in Hastings town centre, and have recently been invited to run Project at the newly built Stade Hall, part of the new development in the historic fishing quarter. This will be our base until October 2011. Hastings is a creative and eccentric town brimming with artists, poets, writers and musicians, and with a nationally recognised tradition of festival and celebration. Current cultural re-developments at the Stade include the Jerwood Gallery, Stade Hall and Open Space for performances and events, which will bring quality contemporary art works to Hastings, and provide opportunities for local artists to showcase their practice. Creative Coast is well-placed to actively contribute to these developments; commissioning, developing and promoting new work through Project Space, and Coastal Currents. Lorna Crabbe graduated in Fine Art in 2000, and the Graduate Certificate in Book Arts in 2007. She regularly exhibits locally and nationally, writes, runs workshops, gives talks, and coordinates and contributes to artists projects. She moved to Hastings in 2007, having formerly lived in London working at the Photography & the Archive Research Centre at London College of Communication, where she coordinated exhibitions, publications, events and research projects in collaboration with a wide range of artists, curators, writers, archivists, publishers and researchers, and with institutions including Tate Modern, the Photographers' Gallery, NPG, London College of Fashion, Photoworks and University of Sussex. Sarah Yates graduated in Fine Art in 2007 from Kingston University. She specialises in digital installation and has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally in recent years. Sarah enjoys forming collaborations, developing projects and curating exhibitions. Over recent years she has worked specifically in programme development and arts administation at a number of festivals and arts institutions locally and nationally. Including Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair (Brick Lane, London), Home Live Arts- The Art of Protest May Day Festival, (Battersea, London) in 2007, St Leonards Festival in 2007, Folkestone Triennial in 2008, Marketing Assistant at Aspex Visual Arts Trust in 2009, Brighton Festival Fringe 2010 & 2011, and administrating the international productions of Dreamthinkspeak 2011. Business Description I love paint. I love the way it flows over surfaces, highlighting texture or concealing it. I add layer after layer of paint to my work until it feels right. Some of my paintings are more 3D than 2D and some of my sculptures are as painted as my paintings. If I’m not painting I’m drawing. I fill sketchbooks with 30 second sketches of people. My wire sculptures are based on these drawings and are very 2D. I like the way they look as if the drawings have jumped off the page. All of my work has meaning for me but I like it when people use it to tell their own stories. I’ve been painting and making objects for 20 years. I studied Fine Art at Goldsmith’s and Guildhall in London. My work is represented in collections in the U.K., America, Switzerland, Japan and China.

The first space of its kind in Hastings situated in the middle of the busiest street in the town centre. The Street comprises of a mixture of Bars, Cafes, retail units and the two Creative Media centers containing over 70 small creative businesses. The street is full of the bustle of commerce in the daytime and the centre for the nighttime economy, attracting thousands of people enjoying the best bar/cafes and clubs in the area. Robertson Street offers the largest foot fall opportunity in the area. Importantly the street is located within the Trinity Triangle and America Ground. F-ISH recognises the need for professionalism within the regional context and its application as a part of current working praxis at a National/international level. The space will is not for hire for artists, rather, programmed by the curators/guest curators.The space delivers workshops and provides an inexpensive and well staffed community platform. F-ISH directors/curators will promote the pursuit of excellence and the professional development of the regions sector components/exponents as a part of a wider exploration and ‘voyage of discovery’ for new/existing audiences. Working with the region not just in it. F-ISH seeks to work with existing and emerging individuals and groups along with regeneration mechanisms/agencies towards higher values within the arts and cultural agenda’s. Current ‘culture led’ regeneration directives both regionally and nationally will be the linier frame work around which real and meaningful ideas will result in actual benefits, and the regeneration of the area and professional development of the arts. F-ISH believes that the relatively high percentage of both professional and other creative practitioners in the area have an un-taped energy, capable of making a real contribution to culture led regeneration. and the expansion of notional and actual horizon’s within this challenging community. Continuing dialogue F-ISH is working with Hastings Borough Council, Seaspace, South East England Development Agency, and Resource for Urban Design Information, Hastings Trust, University College Hastings, local businesses, strategic partnerships, stakeholder groups and individual practitioners.

Business Description Paula MacArthur is a painter-printmaker. In recent years her work has matured into an increasingly painterly and intensely colourful style whilst retaining all the dexterous qualities of her early academic and naturalistic draughtsmanship. Recent work focuses on single objects; sometimes a museum piece, a domestic piece, a shop sign or one of the items on sale inside. These ‘things’ are taken out of their usual context to be scrutinised in isolation by the viewer through the filter of the artist's subjective eye. Heavily influenced by both British and American Pop Art, commercial signage, advertising and all 'Americana' the works celebrate the temptation of 'The American Dream' and explore the temporary and superficial nature of it's promises which rarely deter anyone. Works range from large scale painterly canvases to smaller, more graphic silkscreens and etchings. Paula MacArthur enjoyed early success winning the prestigious John Player Portrait Award at The National Portrait Gallery in 1989 before continuing her studies at The Royal Academy Schools in London. Shortly after completing her studies Paula was a prize winner at the acclaimed John Moores Biennial at The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and since then she has continued to exhibit both nationally and internationally. In 2010 her piece 'Deluxe' won second prize at the London Festival Fringe Art Awards, and this year was invited to contribute to 'What the Folk Say' a series of 20 artist's interventions at Compton Verney in Warwickshire; other contributors include Sir Peter Blake, Susan Hiller and Jeremy Deller. She is represented in several permanent collections including The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors & Baron and Baroness Von Oppenheim.

Business Description I am currently developing my art practise through drawing, collage and painting. Using mark making, flat shape, line and form I am looking for a way to construct a new surface which supports what I intuitively feel is the right fit. By ‘fit’ I mean a particular balance of colour, texture, materials and composition where the combination of elements resonate. As my work develops, references to the subject remain and shift to form a new relationship within the confines of the physical surface of the work.
